Extra Curricular

Pupils are appreciative of the broad range of extra-curricular activities available to them. These activities play an important role in developing pupils’ confidence and wider skills.

Ofsted 2019

Over many pupils in Key Stage 2 chose to learn an instrument with one of our visiting specialist staff: brass, clarinet, flute, oboe, piano, violin, cello, double bass, guitar, drums and singing.  As well as taking grades, playing in groups and joining school orchestra, some of the pupils progress to playing in local area music groups.

A wide range of extra curricular activities are organised during lunchtimes and after school for different pupils.

Instrumental teachers are funded by school to offer an ensemble in their particular instrument, so pupils have a goal to work towards when they start learning instruments. They have the opportunity to experience playing different parts within the same piece of music, as well as playing in unison. Clubs are run for: recorders, flute choir, string group, brass group, guitar groups and the school orchestra, who also play regularly in assembly to accompany hymns.

The orchestra and choir go out to entertain at local events at Christmas:

The school belongs to the Hoddesdon & Broxbourne District Primary Schools Association. Sports clubs are offered to children in different year groups. Some are run by school staff and others by specialist teachers and coaches, such as Saracens and Challenge Sport who also teach whole classes during the school day. Some clubs are seasonal, such as netball, cricket and rounders. Teams are created from the clubs and enter all the local tournaments and events, paying against other local schools in competitions and leagues.
