World Book Day 2020

We have had authors in to visit during the year:

And we had a whole school focus for World Book Day:

The whole school enjoyed World Book Day by continuing to learn about the story ‘The Secret of Black Rock’ by Joe Todd-Stanton. Linking to the story’s theme of protecting our planet and in particular its oceans and  marine life, pupils chose to dress in green – to represent being ‘green’ and looking after our planet, blue – to symbolise our ‘blue planet’ or black, like the Black Rock in the story. They started the day with an assembly in which they learnt about the suffering of the world’s marine life and ways in which they could protect them. At the end of the day, many families enjoyed taking part in the ‘Parent Kidnap’ in the school Hall, in which children kidnapped their adults and spent time sharing stories together.

The session was well-received by both children and adults: “Thought this was a really good idea, just to take some time out of the day to read to the children, which they loved.”
