Roselands hosted the VEX !Q Build Day and Competittion: Slapshot!

Our established Robotics Club, led by secondary teacher, enthusiast and specialist Stuart Higham, has become popular and successful. Our teams competed against others, mainly from secondary schools, with two of our year 6 girls achieving great success as overall winners.

The blue-shirted team of organisers from The John Warner School were excellent ambassadors, supporting the wide range of teams who competed, including our own teams who had worked together at the weekly club (pictured with the older children)

The opportunities this offers to a wide range of our children in invaluable. It is totally inclusive, as we have girls and boys with a wide range of backgrounds and abilities coming together to develop skills that are so beneficial to their future learning. Their confidence and resilience grows visibly throughout the projects, particularly on the event days when they meet with teams of different ages and from other schools. For our primary teams they have now competed against secondary children and, in fact, a pair of our girls had the highest score in the latest competition at the end of an exciting day.

The children have learnt so much and many visitors have been interested and impressed to see the opportunities our children have. It has been a pleasure to host the two special days. During them we have taken the opportunity to show all our pupils what has been achieved, by bringing them into the hall and sitting them next to the arena to see what was happening.
