Reception has had a great first week back! The children have been working so hard, and we are incredibly proud of their progress.

Here is a glimpse into what we have been up to:

What grows on the farm

In preparation for our farm visit on Tuesday the 9th, we have been thinking about where the food we eat comes from and what things are used to make our favourites! The children have been very excited to see some of the crops and animals when we visit the farm next week!

Brilliant Handwriting & Independent Writing

We have continued to focus on our handwriting alongside our sentence writing this week. The children are gaining confidence to go back and re-check their work and make sure it is correct, focusing on formation and the structure of their sentences!

We have also spent time re-capping our tricky words that we have learnt so far in Reception.

Maths

In our maths sessions, we have been working hard to secure our knowledge of number composition. The children have become experts in using tens frames and double dice frames to identify numbers made up of 5 and a bit.  The children have also done an amazing job at beginning to recognise number bonds to 10

The Structure of 10: We have been getting the children to use their fingers to show different bonds to 10 using fingers up and down. They are gaining confidence in using the stem sentences:

“ 10 is made of ______ and ______”

______ and ______ makes 10”

As we come towards the end of Reception, we will be assessing children to see if they have met their Early Learning Goals which form part of their final EYFS report before they move into Year One and start the National Curriculum. This is done by observing your child’s interactions in play and the work they do in class with teachers. They do not participate in any formal assessments. Please find a document below which shows the ELG statements the teachers will use to assess your child. Please feel free to talk to your class teacher about these if you have any concerns.

Notes for next week:

The farm trip will be on Tuesday the 9th of June. Please ensure your child arrives at school with plenty of time to ensure the classes are prepared.

Please provide your child with:

Hat, waterproof coat, suitable footwear (they will be walking through fields), a rucksack, and a water bottle.

Home Learning - 5th May

Phonics - The children have now learnt all Phase 2, 3 & 4 tricky words. These have been sent home across the year as the children have learnt them. Please continue to ensure you practice these alongside your child's reading book. Your child needs to be able to recognise these in their books by sight and when shown the flashcard.

Please use the homework sheet to practise reading our phase 4 words and sentences.

Maths - Please use pages 11 and 12 in the booklet sent home to support your child in practising recalling their number bonds to 5 and 10.

Reading - Please sign your child's reading record each time you hear your child read.

Home Learning - 22nd May

Phonics - The children have now learnt all Phase 2, 3 & 4 tricky words. These have been sent home across the year as the children have learnt them. Please continue to ensure you practice these alongside your child's reading book. Your child needs to be able to recognise these in their books by sight and when shown the flashcard.

Maths - Please find a maths learning worksheet for your child to complete with your support. Please support them in using the stem sentence to spot the parts within the number (5 and a bit) and then the whole number.

Reading - Please sign your child's reading record each time you hear your child read.
